When it comes to pizza, many people say we’re biased toward what we grew up with. However, I’m not sure if that is true. I believe Maine’s pizza scene is very strong, with many options readily available that easily surpass the average NYC slice. I know this is highly subjective, but among the many great options, two pizzerias stand out as my personal favorites. And because there are so many, there are many yet I still need to try (e.g. Quanto Basta), I need to remind people that this review was not exhaustive. These are simply my favorite two, along with some honorable mentions. And yes, this list is highly biased to southern Maine.
Top Pick: Randy’s Wooster St Pizza Naples
Address: 770 Roosevelt Trail, Naples, ME 04055

Randy’s Wooster St Pizza brings authentic New Haven-style pizza to Maine, and it’s nothing short of spectacular. The crust is thin, crispy, and perfectly charred, offering just the right amount of chew. While their menu boasts a variety of creative specialty pies, my personal go-to is a fresh onion, garlic, and sausage pizza. The fresh onion adds a subtle sweetness, the garlic brings bold, aromatic flavor, and the sausage is perfectly seasoned, creating a pie that’s savory, balanced, and unforgettable. It’s the kind of pizza that leaves you talking about it days later.
This is a pizza worth traveling for. Whether you’re grabbing a pie to go or enjoying the relaxed vibe in their memorabilia-filled space, Randy’s delivers every single time.
Runner-Up: Pizza By Alex
Address: 93 Alfred St, Biddeford, ME 04005

Pizza By Alex is a Biddeford institution that has been serving its signature Greek-style pizza since 1960. Their individual-sized pizzas are always baked to golden perfection, with a crust that strikes a perfect balance between crispy and doughy. The sauce is distinct, rich and flavorful, the cheese is perfectly melted, and the toppings are always generous. There’s a nostalgic charm to Alex’s that pairs beautifully with the consistent quality of their pies. It’s no surprise this place has remained a local favorite for decades. You simply can’t beat their pepperoni.
Honorable Mention
Lazzari – Portland (The most Tuscan Italian pizza I’ve enjoyed here in Maine)
Monte’s Fine Foods – Portland (I prefer the margarita – and they have great sandwiches, too)
DiPietro’s – South Portland (Best Pepperoni)
Angelo’s – Gorham (Classic, Greek/Albanian-operated pizza joint)
Angelone’s West – Westbrook (Great Pepperoni and interesting crust)
Paras Pizza – Sanford (classic — basically a toss-up with Pizza by Alex — same Greek-style pies)
